What Differs a Catholic School From Other Schools

When a person is about to step into his college life, the first person(s) who get’(s) worried and excited is/are his parents. This is true, because college life is the crucial stage of education and if a student gets led astray due to bad influences, one’s professional future is ruined. That’s why a lot of parents nowadays are thinking of a good strategy to make their sons and daughters follow the right track while at school. Some parents choose a catholic school rather than other schools that can provide the best educational standards. This is because they believe that sending their kids in a school that can teach not only academic lessons but also spiritual guidance will make the kids have a more serious outlook in studies. But is choosing a catholic school really helps?

When it comes to educational curriculum, a catholic school is not entirely different with other non-catholic schools. There are theology subjects included on the first year of a college student. This has a good effect since freshmen can have a time to talk about God and His teachings. However, there are drawbacks being looked upon. Some people complain of wasting their money to pay for the units of a theology subject while others think it’s a waste of time and effort to study about something that’s really in-line with his course. Well, since these people are enrolled in a catholic school, they don’t have a choice but to rather complete a theology subject in order to advance in the next year.

Another thing that differs catholic schools with other educational institutions is the First Friday Mass. Apparently, this is done on every first Friday of the month. The good thing about this is people will have a mandatory time to hear the Gospel. But some students would rather choose to hang out in some places or rather do other things like making projects and term papers. For parents, it’s a good thing to let their kids have a mass at least once a month but for busy students, it’s just a waste of time.

Some (or most) of the catholic schools have their chapels or churches in the premises of the institution. There are certain green lights and drawbacks that one cannot avoid. In conclusion, a student’s future doesn’t lie on the school he’s attending to but it rather falls on his own responsibility and attitude towards his schooling. As it’s always said in Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” A catholic school is different in a way that it doesn’t only focus in honing a student’s scholastic ability but it also brings spiritual guidance to the students. On the other hand, one should also remember that spirituality is not attained by attending a catholic school but it’s more of a personal quest in pursue of being spiritually closer to God.
